Music

Subject Leads: Janet White (lead) and Millie Railton (deputy)

We aim to encourage pupils at Woodfield Primary School in the development of  their musical skills as their learning progresses through listening and appraising, creating and exploring, and performing. Also to develop a love and appreciation of music and its role across cultures and beliefs.

Why do we teach Music?

How do we teach Music?

It is important that children gain a firm understanding of what music is through listening, singing, playing, evaluating, analysing, and composing across a wide variety of historical periods, styles, traditions, and musical genres.

Also ensuring children understand the value and importance of music in the wider community, and are able to use their musical skills, knowledge, and experiences to involve themselves in music, in a variety of different contexts.

Music is taught by following the Charanga format:

Listen and Appraise,

Musical Activities(including warm up games, singing, improvisation and composition), Perform and Share.

Y1 – 3 follow the Model Music Curriculum Charanga Scheme and Y4 – 6 follow the original Charanga Scheme
