Music Action Plan

Our Music Action Plan embodies our commitment to music at Woodfield Primary School. This is both within our curriculum through the New Model Curriculum and also that of personal musical development, ensuring equity of access and opportunity for all pupils to develop interests, talents and enjoyment. We have universal music offers to all pupils on top of their music curriculum and then promote pathways to aspire to compete, engage in groups, bands and even musical examinations.

At Woodfield Primary School our ethos is to promote the confidence, resilience and self-worth of all our children. We think that promoting enjoyment and fun in participating in a variety of musical experiences will increase all of these. We feel it is important that children gain a firm understanding of what music is through listening, singing, playing, evaluating, analysing, and composing across a wide variety of historical periods, styles, traditions, and musical genres. We also strive to ensure that our children understand the value and importance of music across the curriculum and in the wider community, and are able to use their musical skills, knowledge, and experiences to involve themselves in music, in a variety of different contexts.

We are very proud of the wide array of musical partnerships we have, from networking, music hubs, professional musicians and a long history of participating in festivals and Music For Youth events each year. We celebrate music interests in and out of school, encouraging pupils to develop further through music clubs, choirs and peripatetic teachers and share this engagement in assemblies and in our personal development reflections.
